Job Information

Job Title:  WASH and Shelter Officer.

Location: Aden & Abyan.

Contract Type: Full Time.

Contract Duration: 8 Month.

Start Date: 01 Dec 2025.


Job Description:

The WASH and Shelter Officer will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and monitoring of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) and Shelter activities within the assigned project area. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality services to beneficiaries, adhering to established standards and guidelines. The officer will work closely with communities, local authorities, and partner organizations to achieve project objectives.


Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct baseline and endline assessments and site surveys to identify WASH and Shelter needs in target communities.
  2. Plan, organize, and supervise the implementation of WASH and Shelter activities, including:
  3. Construction/rehabilitation of water supply systems.
  4. Construction/rehabilitation of sanitation facilities.
  5. Hygiene promotion campaigns and training.
  6. Distribution of hygiene kits, basic kits and jerry cans.
  7. Distribution of NFI.
  8. Construction/rehabilitation of temporary or semi-permanent shelters.
  9. Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with relevant standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  10. Monitor project progress and identify any challenges or delays, proposing solutions as needed.
  11. Provide technical support and guidance to field teams and community members.
  12. Supervise and be responsible for all technical aspects of project implementation, ensure they are completed in a timely, efficient and accurate manner according to standard engineering methods.
  13. Ensure the Contractor is compliant with Statutory Law and SOUL safety and security protocols on all construction/rehab sites.
  14. Ensure that variations are approved by the project manager according to SOUL procedures before giving work order to the contractor.
  15. Verify incoming materials are of the highest quality and from acceptable country of origin.
  16. Regularly update project implementation plans to the project manager with associated time lines.
  17. Develop and implement safety standard checklists ensuring that beneficiaries’ safety is central.
  18. Ensure a safe working environment for all people involved in project implementation.
  19. Be responsible for maintaining detailed work plans and written records of engineering work undertaken in the project.
  20. Be responsible for a high degree of awareness regarding the security situation in the project area.
  21. Watch and report on any new needs arising in the project target areas.
  22. Write and submit weekly activity reports and filed visit reports.


Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or relevant.
  2. At least Three years’ experience in the WASH and Shelter sectors.
  3. Excellent in AutoCAD and computer skills including the usage of Microsoft office.
  4. Very good business correspondence skills.
  5. Very good communication and interpersonal skills.
